Are you okay? Typically, this question was not asked when I was younger. I recall speaking with my first therapist at the age of 29 years old after feeling like something was wrong with me. I was so fatigued from the transitions that had taken place over the previous five years, including moving to a state that I had no family in and also changing jobs. It was the first time I sighed and let out a cry that had

been held in from childhood. Trauma was what we talked about and while I knew it was true, I was not ready to open up so we moved on to a different topic - Family. How was it growing up? Were both parents in the household? Do I recall any of my childhood memories? At some point, we all have to face our fears, our past...this was the start to that journey for me. The journey to being okay begins when we admit that we are not okay. It is grounded in honesty, transparency, and growth. Sometimes we wait to long to be ready when all we need to do is be willing to start the process.

So, I ask you today what was asked of me 10 years ago...Are You Okay?
